Canadian
author Glenn Muller doesn't see why New York City should have
all the fun. When he needed a location to crash a satellite in
BOOMERANG, his latest novel, he thought that Huron County would
be ideal.
"BOOMERANG
isn't really about a disaster." Muller says. "In fact, when the
satellite does come down, for a while no-one is quite sure where
it is so I needed somewhere lightly populated. Goderich ticked
all the boxes since there is plenty of open farmland on one side
and the expanse of Lake Huron on the other. Not to mention the
proximity to the US border, which also comes into play." Muller
is quite familiar with the area; he and his wife bring their
travel trailer to Point Farms Provincial Park at least twice a
year. And when he saw the picture of the Victorian resort hotel,
that used to be on the site, the author just knew he had to
bring the grand old building back to life.
"I'll admit
that I manipulated the landmarks a little bit, although with the
harbour, airport, salt mine, courthouse, library, and prison, to
name a few, I was spoiled for choice. That the county also has
unusual weather, occasionally, was just icing on the cake."
BOOMERANG
has a wonderful cast of characters including the core of
fictional residents who decide that they might have their own
use for a Chinese spy satellite. "I don't go for the super-agent
types," says Muller. "My characters have vulnerabilities but
also a lot of heart and a sense of humour. I make sure that the
little guy always has a chance of success against the
heavyweights."
A fast-paced
adventure novel with some elements of a techno-thriller,
BOOMERANG also drifts to the cozy end of the spectrum with its
population of ordinary folk who are faced with an extraordinary
situation. But as the last line of the description states,
"...never count out the locals when they have home field
advantage."
BOOMERANG is
available as an e-book through all popular online retailers
(Amazon, KOBO, Apple, iBooks, Barnes & Noble, etc.) and
available as a paperback at Fincher's Bookstore on Courthouse
Square in Goderich. Speaking of which, mark Saturday May 25th on
your calendar. The author will be available to sign copies of
BOOMERANG at Fincher's Bookstore from 10:30am until Noon.
